Continuing in the Oakwood tradition of innovative and progressive education, the Academy of Creative Education is a summer arts program that will challenge your child in an environment that encourages exploration while providing a solid structure.
1. When does the Academy happen?
Classes are held Monday - Thursday from 10AM - 4:30PM, beginning on Monday, July 7, and ending on Saturday, August 2. Dress rehearsals and performances will be held Monday, July 28 - Saturday, August 2 @7PM.
The Exploratorium meets Monday - Thursday from 9AM - 3PM, from Monday, July 14 - Thursday, July 31. The Exploratorium will have a final concert on Thursday, July 31 @ 7PM.
Parents are welcome to begin dropping off students at 8:30am. Practice rooms and rehearsal spaces will be available, and faculty will be on hand for advising or tutoring sessions.
2. Who can attend the Academy?
Although located at Oakwood School, the Academy of Creative Education is open to students from any school pending an audition.

4. Where does the Academy meet?
As Oakwood's summer program, we use the state-of-the-art performance facility in Oakwood's Music, Dance and Athletic Center which is equipped with rehearsal halls, practice rooms and a dance studio. We also use some classrooms in Oakwood's Math/Science Building.
Directions:
The Academy @ Oakwood is located just off the 170 (Hollywood) Freeway.
From the 170 North, exit at Magnolia, and turn left (West) on Magnolia.
From the 170 South, exit at Magnolia and turn right (East) on Magnolia.
Before the light at Lemp Ave., turn right into the parking structure beneath the Music, Dance, and Athletic Center. Take the elevator or stairs (both located at the West end of the parking area) to the second floor, and turn left. This is where all students will meet the first day of the Academy, and also where we will have our open house on May 31 and June 1.
The classrooms we use while in session are located across the street.
5. How does my child apply for the Academy?

Applications and $200 deposit are due by Thursday, June 12.

6. How much does the Academy cost?
Dance + Theater + Music Programs: $1550
Exploratorium: $1050
7. Who can apply?
Academy Dance, Music and Theater is for students entering grades 7 - 12.
The Exploratorium is for music students entering grades 4 - 6 who have been playing an instrument for at least a year.
8. Does the Academy offer financial aid?
The Academy offers limited need-based scholarships. To apply, please fill out the online request form.
9. How does my child become an Academy TA?
This is a program for highly qualified music students who will earn money or tuition credit by teaching Exploratorium students. Applicants must apply separately for this position, and interview with Academy faculty.
