For students entering grades 7-12 + entering college freshman.

Incorporating drama into an already flourishing community of artists, our Theater program adds creative substance and new perspectives in how to interpret and craft your expression. The varied and diverse art of theater provides infinite possibilities for expression and participation. We hope that each student will make the choice to get as involved as possible and explore the many different aspects of this groundbreaking program.

The purpose of the Theater program is to expose students to the art of play production. All students will learn about and experiment with the many different roles in the world of theater. Eventually students will focus on a particular aspect of theater as they work collectively to produce a final piece, which will be presented at the end of the five-week program. Led by a professional director, students will write, direct, act in and produce a full working play, culminating a summer of creativity, skill, and education. Sign up today!
Acting in Action
Acting in action is an exploratory movement class in which students use tools such as pantomime, commedia, and experimental technique to build physical characters. Issues such as stage fright will be explored actively in an effort to mark a difference between self-consciousness and self-awareness.
Speak the Speech
Speak the Speech provides a rigorous study in voice and speech, examining the actor's instrument and pushing it to new levels. Students will be required to learn a piece of text (to be provided) before the first day of class, and will be actively using the class as a forum for the exploration of their characters in the play.
Performance by Design
This class offers students the opportunity to work with a variety of media such as sound effects, projection, music, lighting, and text to create experimental mini-plays. With a rehearsal kit consisting of clip lights, a stereo, a projector and a few props, you will have the first half of the class period to put together an original theatre piece using fellow students and faculty as your performers. For the second half of class the short plays will be performed as a workshop where we will analyze and critique the elements as a group reworking moments and different aspects of the design. *Open to all ACE students.
Performance / Rehearsal
This class time is set aside for rehearsal. Acting coaches will work extensively with students on some of the more technical skills of performance while working through the texts of the plays we will be performing at the end of camp. The plays we will produce are directed and designed by professional artists and some of our faculty will perform along side of our students in the final productions.
